The 7 Great Lies Of Network Marketing

Here is a great report by Ann Seig on The 7 Great Lies Of Network Marketing

  • Lie #1 – Everyone is your prospect!

  • Lie #2 – This really isn’t sales. We just share products with people.

  • Lie #3 – Anyone can do this!

  • Lie #4 – We’ll build your business for you.

  • Lie #5 – We have the best product ever!

  • Lie #6 – You just don’t have enough belief!

  • Lie #7 – The proven system.

These lies are the reason so many people fail at Network Marketing, and it has given the industry a bad name with many people.  But it works well for many companies because every new distributor buys a lot of product before they quit, and the company just moves on to the next sucker.

THE POWER OF KINDNESS

Kindness... It’s a powerful thing. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone practiced it.. What a different world we would all live in.. I am posting a moving excerpt from the book , The Power Of Kindness..

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry and so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.” As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strengthened also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Years later, that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly* was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, he went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor’s gown, he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day, he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested from the business office to pass the final billing to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words:

“PAID IN FULL WITH ONE GLASS OF MILK…”
(Signed)
Dr. Howard Kelly

*Dr. Howard Kelly was a distinguished physician who, in 1895, founded the Johns Hopkins Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Johns Hopkins University. According to Dr. Kelly’s biographer, Audrey Davis, the doctor was on a walking trip through Northern Pennsylvania one spring day when we stopped by a farm house for a drink of water.

Is It Worth Joining A Network Marketing Business Opportunity?

With the economy spiraling downward, more and more people are looking for alternative ways to generate income and asking themselves “Is It Worth Joining A Network Marketing Business Opportunity?”  Most are looking for financial relief, while some are looking for a vehicle to create total financial freedom. Coupled with the fact that more and more people, from Warren Buffet to Richard Branson, are endorsing network marketing, it’s not too hard to see why over 175,000 people in a single week are getting involved with network marketing.

If you’ve looked into the industry, or researched a company, you probably wondered if it was even worth it to get started. In this short article, I will give you the good and bad of joining a network marketing business opportunity.

Network marketing can be a very fun and lucrative profession, but it can also be extremely frustrating. The network marketing industry, over the last 50 years, has created more millionaires than any other industry, but there is a staggering  failure rate in the industry. If you’re thinking about joining a company, it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you get started.

Many people got involved in network marketing only to find their friends and family started avoiding them like the plague because the word gets out that they are in a “recruiting thing” and they want to get them in the “recruiting thing” too. (see my blog: Network Marketing, Are you Hunting or Fishing)

During this time, many people are told that it’s a scam, pyramid scheme or that it will never work.

It’s true there are scams out there, but after looking at some statistics, you can see why so many people want to join a network marketing company. The average income in the U.S. for someone who graduates high school but doesn’t have a college degree, is less than $26,000 a year.   No Network Marketing Business can make any income claims or guarantees, but after taking some time to learn how to actually build a business, what could have been many peoples’ annual income turns into a monthly income. More important than the money, is the quality time Network Marketing allows you to spend with family.

So does that automatically mean you should join a business? No, the truth is you should join a business if you plan on learning how to properly do the business and treating your business like a business. Now, I’m not talking about joining for the sake of getting a discount on the products because you’re a consumer. That’s all fine and good, but I’m talking about if you want to build a business that will give you financial freedom and the time to enjoy that freedom.  And, yes, there may be a period where you are learning and not making as much as you would like. Just understand that statistics show that for anyone who is proactively building their network marketing business, the chances of earning an annual income of six-figures are significantly higher than any other profession in the world.

So the question you need to ask yourself is, are you looking to make a quick buck or are you serious about your long-term success?

If you or someone you know are struggling with a job, business or considering a career change.  If you’re serious and you’re ready to build a professional business and looking for a rock-solid company to work with, you owe it to yourself or to them to check this out. Many people are told that it’s a scam, pyramid scheme or that it will never work.

It’s true there are scams out there, but there are also excellent business opportunities in the market place as well. After looking at some statistics, you can see why so many people want to join a network marketing company. The True Story Of Thanksgiving

The story of the Pilgrims according to Rush begins in the early part of the seventeenth century. The Church of England under King James I was persecuting anyone and everyone who did not recognize its absolute civil and spiritual authority. Those who challenged ecclesiastical authority and those who believed strongly in freedom of worship were hunted down, imprisoned, and sometimes executed for their beliefs. A group of separatists first fled to Holland and established a community.”After eleven years, about forty of them agreed to make a perilous journey to the New World, where they would certainly face hardships, but could live and worship God according to the dictates of their own consciences. On August 1, 1620, the Mayflower set sail. It carried a total of 102 passengers, including forty Pilgrims led by William Bradford. On the journey, Bradford set up an agreement, a contract, that established just and equal laws for all members of the new community, irrespective of their religious beliefs. Where did the revolutionary ideas expressed in the Mayflower Contract come from? From the Bible. The Pilgrims were a people completely steeped in the lessons of the Old and New Testaments. They looked to the ancient Israelites for their example.”And, because of the biblical precedents set forth in Scripture, they never doubted that their experiment would work. But this was no pleasure cruise, friends. The journey to the New World was a long and arduous one. And when the Pilgrims landed in New England in November, they found, according to Bradford’s detailed journal, a cold, barren, desolate wilderness. There were no friends to greet them, he wrote. There were no houses to shelter them. There were no inns where they could refresh themselves. And the sacrifice they had made for freedom was just beginning. During the first winter, half the Pilgrims – including Bradford’s own wife – died of either starvation, sickness or exposure. When spring finally came, Indians taught the settlers how to plant corn, fish for cod and skin beavers for coats.”Life improved for the Pilgrims, but they did not yet prosper! This is important to understand because this is where modern American history lessons often end. Thanksgiving is actually explained in some textbooks as a holiday for which the Pilgrims gave thanks to the Indians for saving their lives, rather than as a devout expression of gratitude grounded in the tradition of both the Old and New Testaments. Here is the part that has been omitted: The original contract the Pilgrims had entered into called for everything they produced to go into a common store, and each member of the community was entitled to one common share. All of the land they cleared and the houses they built belong to the community as well. They were going to distribute it equally.”Nobody owned anything. They just had a share in it. It was a commune. It was the forerunner to the communes we saw in the ’60s and ’70s out in California – and it was complete with organic vegetables, by the way. Bradford, who had become the new governor of the colony, recognized that this form of collectivism was as costly and destructive to the Pilgrims as that first harsh winter, which had taken so many lives. He decided to take bold action. Bradford assigned a plot of land to each family to work and manage, thus turning loose the power of the free marketplace. That’s right. Long before Karl Marx was even born, the Pilgrims had discovered and experimented with what could only be described as socialism. And what happened? It didn’t work!”"It never has worked! “What Bradford and his community found was that the most creative and industrious people had no incentive to work any harder than anyone else, unless they could utilize the power of personal motivation! But while most of the rest of the world has been experimenting with socialism for well over a hundred years – trying to refine it, perfect it, and re-invent it – the Pilgrims decided early on to scrap it permanently. What Bradford wrote about this social experiment should be in every schoolchild’s history lesson. If it were, we might prevent much needless suffering in the future. ‘The experience that we had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years…that by taking away property, and bringing community into a common wealth, would make them happy and flourishing – as if they were wiser than God,’ Bradford wrote.

“‘For this community [so far as it was] was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children without any recompense … that was thought an injustice.’ Why should you work for other people when you can’t work for yourself? What’s the point? Do you hear what he was saying? The Pilgrims found that people could not be expected to do their best work without incentive. So what did Bradford’s community try next? They unharnessed the power of good old free enterprise by invoking the capitalistic principle of private property.

“Every family was assigned its own plot of land to work and permitted to market its own crops and products. And what was the result? ‘This had very good success,’ wrote Bradford, ‘for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been.’   In no time, the Pilgrims found they had more food than they could eat themselves.

“Now, this is where it gets really good,  if you’re laboring under the misconception that I was, as I was taught in school. So they set up trading posts and exchanged goods with the Indians. The profits allowed them to pay off their debts to the merchants in London. And the success and prosperity of the Plymouth settlement attracted more Europeans and began what came to be known as the ‘Great Puritan Migration.’” But this story stops when the Indians taught the newly arrived suffering in socialism Pilgrims how to plant corn and fish for cod. That’s where the story stops, and the story basically doesn’t even begin there. The real story of Thanksgiving is William Bradford giving thanks to God for the guidance and the inspiration to set up a thriving colony. The bounty was shared with the Indians. They did sit down and they had dinner, and I think they had a turkey, but it was not the Indians who saved the day. It was free market capitalism and Scripture which saved the day.”

Happy Thanksgiving, Jim Burcham

Is your Job a Pyramid Scheme? – Network Marketing vs. The Corporate World

Many people don’t like or either they don’t understand the words Network Marketing and they think it is a Pyramid Scheme.  Some people  actually have entrepreneurial minds, love the concept and understand that Network Marketing is  an outstanding  business model and gives everyday people a way to make a lot of money not available to them in the Corporate World; but, if you are going to be successful, it is crucial that you understand how it works.

I think there are basically two reasons why some people seem to throw up a defensive wall when someone mentions the words network marketing. First, either they have or a family member has tried it, and because they were not shown how to market their business, they dropped out before ever knowing success.  Second, some people are ignorant about the network marketing industry.  They haven’t done any research and automatically equate network marketing with a pyramid scheme.

When you think about it, the Corporate World is more like a pyramid scheme than network marketing.  Each company has an Owner/CEO, President, Vice–Presidents, Middle Management, Sales Force, and Hourly Employees in an Org Chart that looks like a Pyramid.  Everybody knows that the Owner/CEO is going to make the most money and the salaries decrease as you go down through the organization.  The only way to make big money is to play office politics in order to get into upper management.  You may also have to hope that someone retires or gets fired in order for you to get promoted.  The funny thing is that people feel this is normal and okay.  How is this any less pyramid than network marketing? All people in the company work hard, but ONLY those at the very top make a lot of money.

On the contrary, in network marketing the basic idea is that it benefits everyone involved to help people who are new reach the top. In fact the whole business model hinges on this idea – the only way to become really successful in the long term is to help others be successful.  With today’s global marketplace, the internet and a good compensation plan, there is plenty of room for everybody.

But what about the miserable statistics of network marketing, the over 90% drop-out rate etc.?  This is mainly caused by the simple fact that people are not shown how to do network marketing correctly. And some network marketing companies are responsible for this themselves, by providing useless ideas like the 3 foot rule or harrassing friends and family until they give in and sign up. While this may be good for the company, it does nothing for building your business because the person is not interested in building a business with you.  (see my blog “are you hunting or fishing”)

If you are going to be involved in network marketing, you need to develop both the right mind set and acquire the right knowledge and no, they don’t teach this in college but we do.

You will learn that when you do this business right:
* You don’t have to “sell”
* You don’t have to post “work at home” flyers!
*You don’t have to approach strangers at the mall and in the grocery stores.
*You don’t have to chase your friends and family.
* You don’t have to ask people to join your business, They will ask you!

Veterans Day

In honor of veterans day I wanted to post this wonderful piece that I received today. It was written by  a dear friend of my friend Herb Hunter.

Snack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. I’m glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation.

Where are you headed?  I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. Petawawa. We’ll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we’re being deployed to Afghanistan

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time…

As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch.  No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn’t be worth five bucks. I’ll wait till we get to base. His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill.  Take a lunch to all those soldiers. She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. My son was a soldier in Iraq ; it’s almost like you are doing it for him.

Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, Which do you like best  beef or chicken?
Chicken,  I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. This is your thanks.

After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room.
A man stopped me. I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.  He handed me twenty-five dollars.

Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand and said, I want to shake your hand. Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain’s hand.

With a booming voice he said, “‘I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.” I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.

When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base.
I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars.  It will take you some time to reach the base.  It will be about time for a sandwich.

God Bless You.  Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers.

As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little…

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America   for an amount of up to and including my life.

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Please remember our veterans today

Do You Need A Plan B

Many people today Need A Plan B because they followed the best advice at the time.  ”Get a job with a good company that has good benefits and a retirement plan, stay there for 30+ years, retire and enjoy retirement.” Many people planned to move to a warm climate, travel the world and enjoy the fruits of their labor – it was the American Dream. The key word here is – was… because today’s reality is much different. Many Companies have cut jobs,  reduced benefits or dropped them, or have gone out of business altogether. Today many people Need A Plan B.

YOU MUST HAVE A SYSTEM

Most people are going into a “Home-Based Business” with little or no knowledge of how to market online. While using the old-school method of trying to recruit your family and friends is all fine and good, the real growth of your business will come through online marketing.

“Trying to do business online without training, is like driving a car on the freeway without knowing how to drive” Dale Werner

Most people don’t even know what a “Marketing System is. It is simply a step-by-step program that you use to market your business.

Once you are in the “System,” you have access to all of the tools you need to build your business. All in one place. Everything from ”Custom Lead Capture Pages,” auto-responders, lead management system, training articles and more.

Most systems will cost you approx. $49.95 and up per month. With a more advanced level costing upwards of $1000 or more, but at NetTrav it’s only $15.
The training alone is worth that. The knowledge that you will gain will place you far above the average person marketing online.

Get into our  “Marketing System“, if you are serious about making money online. Be diligent. Treat it like a business. Take the time to learn how to use the System and the Strategies. And then put them to use consistently. You WILL see the results you are looking for.

If you’re struggling with your business, considering a career in network marketing or just looking for a rock-solid company to work with, please contact me by email at jimburcham44@gmail.com or call 734-453-9640. “Just-Do-It”

The purpose of today’s blog, which I call,  ”Just-Do-It,” is to share the information that I believe has helped me succeed and I am sure it will help you also.

I find it amazing how few people build a successful business.

When you really think about it, what is the real difference between the people who have success and those who don’t?

While I was growing up, I noticed that people who owned a business usually made a lot more money than the people who worked for someone else’s business.

There are three  basic problems:  people don’t have the money to start a business, don’t have any idea what product or service to market, and they don’t know how to run a business. When I was first introduced to network marketing, I thought to myself — this is the answer, finally, a business that people can start on a very limited budget with no special skill set, background, or experience, they have a product to market, and all of the training and corporate support to succeed.

I figured that everyone I talked to about starting their own business would be interested just like I was.  Boy was I wrong!  In fact, it took me months to earn my first commission check and almost a year to even earn a profit.  I spent alot of time trying to learn everything I could about the network marketing industry and I found that there are certain traits that almost every successful marketer possessed.

As soon as I started following these traits, my business exploded and I attracted people into my business.  One of the first things that really changed the way I looked at business and what was possible, was when I heard a speech by Art Williams. This is one of the most powerful speeches I have ever heard about what is possible if we make up our mind and Just Do It.

This is one of the speeches that helped me keep going when I felt like quitting.  The two things I found from this video:  1. Don’t quit; and 2. Be a leader.  As soon as I decided I was not going to quit and I was going to lead my team, things started happening.
